The flag of the Organization of Turkic States combines symbolic elements associated with its member states. Its design features a turquoise background inspired by the flag of Kazakhstan, a sun representing Kyrgyzstan, an eight-pointed star associated with Azerbaijan, and a crescent derived from the Turkish flag. The original flag was adopted at the organization’s second summit in Bishkek on August 23, 2012, and was officially raised on October 12, 2012. On November 6, 2024, a new flag design featuring an eight-pointed Seljuk star was proposed at the Bishkek Summit. The Seljuk star has historical and cultural significance across the Turkic world and appears in various state and institutional emblems.
The flag represents the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), an intergovernmental organization dedicated to strengthening cooperation among Turkic states and peoples. Formerly known as the Turkic Council or the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States, the organization comprises Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan as its member states, while Hungary, Turkmenistan, and Northern Cyprus hold observer status. The OTS promotes cooperation in areas including politics, economy, education, culture, transportation, tourism, and other fields of mutual interest. Its flag symbolizes the shared history, cultural ties, and common identity that connect the Turkic states while representing their commitment to closer cooperation.
