The flag of Kyrgyzstan (Kyrgyz: Кыргызстандын туусу; Russian: Флаг Киргизии) is a red flag with a yellow sun in the middle. The red field represents "bravery and valor" and refers to Manas's emblem, the national hero of Kyrgyzstan. The sun epitomizes peace and prosperity, while the sun's forty rays represent the number of tribes united by Manas to fight against the Mongols. The crossed triple laths above the sun refer to traditional tents. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 3:5, and the flag was adopted on March 3, 1992.
Its emblem features a falcon (Ak Shumkar), a symbol of purity and nobility of thoughts, and the protection of the lands behind it (Issyk-Kul and the snowy peaks of the Ala-Too mountains). The blue color of the emblem is known as the color of courage and generosity, and the emblem is surrounded by cotton bolls and ears of wheat, the main agricultural products of the country.
