Liguria Flag GIF (Bandiera Ligure)

The flag of Liguria (Italian: Bandiera della Liguria) is a vertical tricolor of green, red, and blue with the coat of arms of Liguria in the middle. The green color represents the Ligurian Alps and the Ligurian Apennines; the red color symbolizes the spilled blood for the Italian unification; and the blue color represents the Ligurian Sea. The coat of arms of Liguria includes a stylized sailing ship, symbolizing the region's maritime traditions. The four six-pointed stars represent the four provinces of Liguria: Genoa, Imperia, La Spezia, and Savona. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 3:4, and the flag was adopted on July 7, 1997. Liguria is a coastal region in northwestern Italy. Its capital is Genoa; its population is about 1.551 million (2019); and its area is 5,416 km².
