The flag of Indonesia (Indonesian: Bendera Indonesia) is a simple, double-colored flag consisting of two equal horizontal bands, red on top and white on the bottom. While the red color symbolizes courage, the white color represents purity. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on August 17, 1950.
Its emblem features an eagle with a shield on its chest, symbolizing power and majesty. On the shield are a gold star, which is the common symbol of many religions in the country; a chain symbolizing the human generation; a banyan tree symbolizing the unity of the country; a wild bull symbolizing democracy; and rice and flax ears representing justice and livelihoods.
