The flag of Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Italian: Bandiera del Friuli-Venezia Giulia) depicts a golden eagle standing on white fortifications on a blue background. The colors (gold and blue) come from the historical flag of Friuli, while the eagle symbol comes from the name of the ancient city of Aquileia. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on October 17, 2001. Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the 20 regions of Italy. Its capital is Trieste; its population is about 1.215 million (2019); and its area is 7,924 km².
