The waving flag of Marche (Animated GIF)

Marche is one of the twenty regions of Italy. Its capital is Ancona, its population is about 1,532,000, and its area is 9,401 km². The flag of Marche is a white field with the regional emblem of Marche on it, with the words "Regione Marche" ("Marche Region") in green above the emblem. The emblem of Marche bears a stylized woodpecker, overlapping a black shape to form a capital letter M, on a green-bordered shield with a white field. The woodpecker was the tribal totem of the Picentes, an Italian tribe living in most of today's Marche region. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on November 4, 1995.
