Flag of Liberia (GIF)

The Liberia flag consists of red and white stripes that change and a white star on the blue square in the canton. Eleven white-red stripes symbolize the signatories of the Liberian Declaration of Independence. The red and white colors symbolize courage and moral excellence. The white star represents the first independent western-style republic in Africa. Also, the blue square refers to the African continent. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 10:19, and the flag was adopted on July 26, 1847.

The sailing ship in its coat of arms represents the ships that brought freed slaves from the United States to Liberia in the 19th century. The plow and shovel symbolize the honor of labor and hard work, the palm symbolizes the country's versatile food source, the rising sun symbolizes the birth of a nation, and the white dove with parchment symbolizes peace.

The Liberia flag is waving on a flagpole rising from the world globe.
