The blue color represents the sky and rain, the green color represents prosperity, the white color represents peace, and the black color represents a black nation. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on October 4, 2006.

Its coat of arms features a blue crocodile on the Basotho shield, the symbol of the Bakoena dynasty. Behind the shield are a spear and a club, and the shield is supported by two Basotho horses.
