The flag of Kuwait (Arabic: علم الكويت) is a four-color flag consisting of green, white, and red horizontal bands that have a black trapezoid on the left. While the black color represents the defeat of the enemy, the red is the color of the blood on the sword. The white color symbolizes purity, and the green color refers to the fertile soil. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on September 7, 1961.
The coat of arms features a stylized golden falcon carrying a shield covered with the Kuwaiti flag on its chest. The falcon is a symbol of the Banu Quraysh lineage, to which the Islamic prophet Mohammed belongs. There is a sailing ship, symbolizing the maritime tradition of the country, on the disc, surrounded by the wings of the falcon.
