The national flag of Djibouti (Somali: Calanka Jabuuti, Arabic: علم جيبوتي, French: Drapeau de Djibouti) consists of two horizontal bands of light blue and light green with a white isosceles triangle on the hoist side and a red star in the middle. The light blue color represents the sky and the sea, as well as Issa Somalis. The color green symbolizes the endless green of the world and the Afar people. The white color represents peace, and the red star symbolizes unity and the bloodshed of the martyrs for independence. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on June 27, 1977.
In the national emblem, surrounded by laurel leaves, two hands holding a machete symbolize the two ethnic groups of the country (the Afar and the Issa), and the star symbolizes the unity between these two peoples.
