The flag of Germany (German: Flagge Deutschlands) is a tri-colored flag consisting of three equal horizontal bands of black, red, and yellow, showing the national colors of Germany. The colors represent German unity and freedom. In addition, the yellow color symbolizes generosity; the red color represents hardiness, bravery, strength, and valor; and the black color symbolizes determination. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 3:5, and the flag was adopted on May 23, 1949.
