The national flag of France (French: drapeau français) is a tri-colored flag consisting of three equal vertical dark blue, white, and red stripes. White was the color of the king; dark blue and red were the colors of Paris and symbolized it. In addition, the three colors represent the three elements of the revolutionary slogan: freedom, equality, and brotherhood. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the current version of the flag was adopted on February 15, 1794.
Also, its emblem features a shield with a lion's head on one end and an eagle's head on the other, with the letters "RF" (République Française) on it, a laurel branch symbolizing the victory of the Republic, an oak branch symbolizing perennity and wisdom, and a fasces (the bundle of rods and an axe) symbolizing justice.
