The national flag of Armenia consists of three horizontal bands of equal width, red (top), blue, and orange. The red color represents Christianity, independence, and freedom; the blue color symbolizes peace; and the orange color symbolizes creativity and hard work. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on August 24, 1990.

Also on its coat of arms are eagle and lion figures, symbolizing the first Armenian kingdoms that existed before Christ. On the shield, there is a lion with a cross, the emblem of the Bagratuni and Rubenid Dynasties, a two-headed eagle, the emblem of the Arsacid Dynasty, and two eagles looking at each other, the symbol of the Artaxiad Dynasty.
