The national flag of Andorra (Catalan: Bandera d'Andorra) is a vertical tricolor of blue, yellow, and red with the Andorran coat of arms in the center. These colors are said to represent Andorra's independence from France and Spain; blue and red refer to France, and red and yellow to Spain. The motto in the coat of arms in the middle stripe, "Virtus Unita Fortior," means "Virtue United is Stronger". The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 7:10, and the flag was adopted on August 27, 1971.
The shield-shaped coat of arms of Andorra features the emblems of the Bishop of Urgell, Count of Foix, Catalonia, and Viscount of Béarn.
