The national flag of Benin (French: drapeau du Bénin) consists of two horizontal yellow and red stripes on the right and a green vertical stripe on the left. The yellow and green colors symbolize the northern savannas and palm groves in the south of the country, while the red color represents the bloodshed of those who fight for Dahomey. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on November 16, 1959.
Also, its coat of arms includes a pair of black horns, and two spotted panthers supporting a shield containing a Somba castle, the Star of Benin, a sailing ship, and a palm tree.
