The flag of Bulgaria (Bulgarian: знаме на България) is a tri-colored flag consisting of three equal-sized horizontal bands: white (top), green, and red. The white color symbolizes peace and love; the green color means freedom and agricultural wealth; and the red color represents the blood of patriots spilled in the struggle for freedom. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 3:5, and the flag was adopted in 1879.
In the national coat of arms, the shield with a crowned golden lion is supported by two lions standing on oak branches, and on it is the historical Bulgarian crown.
