The flag of the Bahamas consists of a black triangle situated at the hoist side with three horizontal bands of aquamarine (color), yellow, and aquamarine. While the yellow color represents the glowing sun and natural resources, the aquamarine color symbolizes the water surrounding the country. The black color depicts the strength, vigor, and force of the Bahamian people. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on July 10, 1973.
Its coat of arms includes the island's national animals, the flamingo and marlin, a shield depicting a ship (representing the Santa Maria of Christopher Columbus) under the sun, a shell on a helmet depicting the island's marine life, and the motto: "Forward, Upward, Onward Together".
