The flag of Brunei (Malay: Bendera Brunei / بنديرا بروني; Arabic: علم بروناي) consists of a national emblem centered on a yellow field cut with black and white diagonal lines. The yellow color symbolizes the Sultan of Brunei, and the black and white stripes represent the prime ministers of Brunei. The crescent in the emblem symbolizes Islam; the royal parasol represents the monarchy; the wings symbolize the protection of justice, tranquility, prosperity, and peace; and the hands on the side symbolize the benevolence of the government. The national slogan, written in Arabic on the crescent, means: "Always render service with Allah's (God's) guidance." The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on September 29, 1959.
