Azores Flag GIF (Bandeira dos açores)

The flag of the Azores (Portuguese: Bandeira dos açores) is a two-part and two-color flag, vertically two-fifths blue from the left of the flag field, and three-fifths from the right white. Above the border of the two parts, under an arch of 9 golden stars extending from one wing tip to the other, there is a golden goshawk with its wings spread. In the upper left canton of the flag is a Portuguese shield from the Portuguese coat of arms. The bird is associated with the name of the islands (they don't live on the island; "açores" means "goshawk"), and the nine stars represent the nine islands. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on April 10, 1979.

The Azores is an autonomous region of Portugal and an archipelago of nine volcanic islands located in the Macaronesia region of the North Atlantic Ocean. Its capital is Ponta Delgada, and its population is approximately 242,846 (2019).
