The Karakalpakstan flag consists of three horizontal stripes of blue, yellow, and green, separated by white and red borders. To the left of the upper blue stripe is a white crescent moon and five white five-pointed stars. The color blue symbolizes water and spring. The yellow color indicates that most of Karakalpakstan consists of deserts. The color green is a sign of renewal of nature, spirituality, trust, and the sun. The crescent is a sacred symbol for Muslims and represents Islam. Five stars are symbols of life and trust in the five most ancient cities of Karakalpakstan. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on December 14, 1992.
