The flag of French Polynesia (French: Drapeau de la Polynésie française) consists of three horizontal stripes: red-white-red, with a coat of arms centered on the white stripe. Red and white are the traditional colors of Polynesia. The coat of arms represents the five archipelagos of French Polynesia, life (golden rays), and abundance (ocean waves). The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on November 23, 1984.
French Polynesia is an overseas collectivity and the only overseas country of the French Republic. It consists of 118 islands and atolls in the South Pacific Ocean. Its capital is Papeete, and its population is approximately 282,534 (2021).
