Faroe Islands Flag GIF (Færøernes flag)



The Faroe Islands flag (Danish: Færøernes flag) consists of a blue-framed, red Scandinavian cross tilted to the left in a white field. The flag mainly represents Christianity. White symbolizes the foam of the sea and the pure, sparkling sky of the Faroe Islands. The blue and red colors used in other Scandinavian and Nordic flags represent the Faroe Islands' ties with other Nordic countries. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 8:11, and the flag was adopted on April 25, 1940.

The Faroe Islands are an archipelago in the North Atlantic and an autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark. Its capital is Tórshavn, and its population is approximately 49,053 (2021).
