Flag of the Faroe Islands (GIF)

The Faroe Islands are an archipelago in the North Atlantic and an autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark. Its capital is Tórshavn, and its population is approximately 50,000.

The Faroe Islands flag consists of a blue-framed red Scandinavian cross tilted to the left in a white field. The flag mainly represents Christianity. White symbolizes the foam of the sea and the pure, sparkling sky of the Faroe Islands. The blue and red colors used in other Scandinavian and Nordic flags represent the Faroe Islands' bonds with other Nordic countries. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 8:11, and the flag was adopted on April 25, 1940.
