The flag of Niger (French: drapeau du Niger) consists of three horizontal bands, orange, white, and green, and an orange disc centered on the white band. The colors of the flag are the national colors of Niger. The orange band represents the northern regions of the Sahara Desert; the white band represents purity; and the green band represents both hope and the fertile parts of southern Niger. The orange circle in the center band represents the sun or independence. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 6:7, and the flag was adopted on November 23, 1959.
The shield, which is surrounded by national flags on its coat of arms, has the sun in the middle, two crossed Tuareg swords on a spear on the left, three pearl millet heads on the right, and a head of zebu cattle below it.
