The flag of Togo (French: drapeau du Togo) consists of five horizontal alternating lines in green and yellow. In the upper left corner, there is a white five-pointed star on a red square. The red color represents the blood of the martyrs spilled for the struggle for independence. The white color and star represent hope. The green color represents forests, agriculture, and nature, and the yellow color represents the country's natural resources. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:1.618 (the golden ratio), and the flag was adopted on April 28, 1960.
The two lions with bows and arrows on its coat of arms represent the defense of the country's freedom by all citizens. Above the lions is the abbreviation of the French name of the country (République Togolaise) on a yellow shield in the shape of a sun. At the top is a French slogan meaning "Work, Liberty, Homeland."
