The flag of Thailand (Thai: ธงชาติไทย) consists of five horizontal stripes in red, white, blue, white, and red, from top to bottom, and the middle blue stripe is twice as high as the other stripes. The colors are said to stand for the "nation-religion-king," an unofficial motto of Thailand. The red color represents the land and people; the white color symbolizes the religions; and the blue color represents the monarchy. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on September 28, 1917.
Its emblem features the Garuda, a hybrid being of half-man and half-eagle, the mythological beast of the Hindu and Buddhist traditions, symbolizing the divine power and authority of the king and considered a symbol of divine and sacred kingship in ancient Thailand.
