Flag of Georgia (U.S. state) (GIF)



The flag of the state of Georgia consists of three horizontal stripes of red, white, and red and a square blue canton. The canton has a yellow state coat of arms surrounded by 13 white stars. The coat of arms of the state symbolizes legislative, executive, judicial, and constitutional powers. The sword represents the defense of the state's constitution. The star ring symbolizes the status of Georgia as one of the original Thirteen Colonies. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on May 8, 2003. Georgia is a state in the Southeastern United States. Its capital is Atlanta; its population is about 10.8 million (2021); and its area is 59,425 mi².
