The Michigan Flag consists of a centered state coat of arms in a dark blue field. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on June 26, 1911. A man with a raised hand represents peace, and he represents the war for the state with a long weapon in the other. The bald eagle symbolizes the United States. There are three Latin slogans on the flag:
- "E Pluribus Unum," meaning "Out of many, one," is the motto of the United States.
- "Tuebor" means "I will defend."
- "Si Quæris Peninsulam Amœnam Circumspice" means "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you."
