Flag of Utah (GIF)


Utah is a state in the western United States. Its capital is Salt Lake City, its population is approximately 3,102,000, and its area is 84,897 mi².

The Utah state flag consists of the Utah state seal, which is enclosed in a gold circle on a dark navy blue background. The bald eagle, the national bird of the United States, symbolizes protection in peace and war. The sego lily, the state flower of Utah, symbolizes peace. The state motto (industry) and beehive represent progress and hard work. The date of 1847 represents the year when Mormon pioneers entered Salt Lake Valley, and the date of 1896 symbolizes the year Utah was admitted as the 45th state. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 5:8, and the flag was adopted on February 16, 2011.
