Flag of Utah (GIF)



The Utah state flag consists of the Utah state seal, which is enclosed in a gold circle on a dark navy blue background. The bald eagle, the national bird of the United States, symbolizes protection in peace and war. The sego lily, the state flower of Utah, symbolizes peace. The state motto (industry) and beehive represent progress and hard work. The date 1847 marks the year Mormon pioneers entered the Salt Lake Valley, while the date 1896 marks the year Utah was admitted as the 45th state. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 5:8, and the flag was adopted on February 16, 2011.

Utah is a state in the western United States. Its capital is Salt Lake City; its population is approximately 3.338 million (2021); and its area is 84,897 mi².
