The flag of Ukraine (Ukrainian: Прапор України) is a two-color flag consisting of two horizontal bands of equal size in blue and yellow. The top blue color represents the sky, mountains, and streams, especially the Dnieper River. The yellow color below represents the golden wheat fields and the golden domes of Christian churches. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted in 1848.
There is a golden trident on a blue shield surrounded by a golden border on its coat of arms. The trident, colloquially known as the "tripzub," derives from the trident seal of Volodymyr, the first Grand Prince of Kiev.
