The flag of Senegal (French: drapeau du Sénégal) is a three-color flag with three vertical green, yellow, and red bands and a five-pointed green star in the center. The green color and green star represent the color of the Prophet of Islam. Yellow symbolizes prosperity and the development of the economy. The color red expresses life and sacrifice. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on October 5, 1992.
The shield in its coat of arms features a lion, the national symbol of the country and symbolizing power; a baobab tree, a tree species unique to Senegal; and a green wavy stripe, representing the Senegal River.
