The flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis consists of a green triangle at the top, a red triangle at the bottom, and a black diagonal stripe separating these triangles. The black stripe has yellow edges and two white stars on it. The green color represents the country's fertile lands, while the red color represents the struggle for freedom against slavery and colonialism. The yellow color symbolizes sunshine, and the black color symbolizes people of African origin. The two white stars in the black stripe represent the islands of St. Christopher and Nevis, as well as hope and freedom. The height-to-width ratio of the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted in 1983.
The shield in its coat of arms includes the head of a Carib, the first inhabitants of the islands; a lily and rose, symbolizing British and French influences; a sailing boat, representing traditional maritime transport; and two poinciana flowers. At the top of the helmet on the top of the shield is a burning torch supported by three hands, one white, one black, and one mixed, symbolizing the freedom struggle of people of different ethnic origins. On the sides of the shield are the country's main crops, the sugarcane plant, and the coconut palm branch, and the shield is supported by two white pelicans, the country's national bird.
