The national flag of Paraguay (Spanish: bandera de Paraguay) consists of three horizontal lines: red, white, and blue. The colors of the flag are inspired by the colors of the French flag, which is believed to be a symbol of independence and freedom. The flag is unusual because it differs on the front and back sides; the front of the flag shows the national coat of arms, and the back side shows the seal of the treasure. On its coat of arms is a golden star surrounded by palm and olive branches, and on its seal is a golden lion in front of a Phrygian hat. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 11:20, and the current version of the flag was adopted on July 15, 2013.
