The flag of Rwanda (Kinyarwanda: ibendera ry'Urwanda, French: Drapeau du Rwanda) is a three-color flag of blue, yellow, and green bands with the sun to the right of the blue band. The blue band, which is wider than the others, represents happiness and peace, and the yellow band symbolizes economic development. The color green symbolizes the hope of prosperity, and the sun represents enlightenment. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on October 25, 2001.
The green ring on its coat of arms symbolizes industrial development; the two shields on the sides symbolize patriotism, national sovereignty, and the defense of justice; and the basket in the middle symbolizes the gift of friendship among Rwandans. Sorghum and coffee stalks on both sides of the basket are the main agricultural products of the country.
