The flag of Tanzania (Swahili: bendera ya Tanzania) consists of a black diagonal band with a yellow edge separating the green top triangle and the blue bottom triangle from the lower-left corner of the flag. While the green color refers to the country's natural flora and "rich agricultural resources," the black color represents the Swahili people of Tanzania. The blue color symbolizes the countless lakes and rivers of the country, as well as the Indian Ocean. The thin yellow lines represent the mineral riches of Tanzania. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on June 30, 1964.
In its coat of arms, a flaming torch, representing freedom, enlightenment, and knowledge, appears in the upper gold part, which symbolizes the mineral wealth of the country. In the red part, which symbolizes the rich and fertile lands of the country, there are a spear, an axe, and a hoe used for the defense and development of the country. There are two ivories on the sides of the coat of arms and wavy stripes on the bottom, representing the land, sea, and lake coasts of the country. On the representation of Mount Kilimanjaro, a man with a clove plant on his feet and a woman with a cotton plant on her feet symbolize cooperation.
