The flag of Castile and Leon (Spanish: Bandera de Castilla y León) consists of the old coats of arms of Castile and Leon. The yellow castles on the red background represent Castile, and the purple lions represent Leon on a white background. The height-to-width ratio of the flag is 10:13, and the flag was adopted in 1983. Castile and Leon is an autonomous community in northwestern Spain. The name of the Autonomous Community of Castile and León comes from the founding historical territories of Leon and Castile. Its capital is Valladolid, its population is approximately 2.408 million (2019), and its area is 94,223 km².
