Flag of Extremadura (GIF)
The Extremadura flag (Spanish: Bandera de Extremadura) consists of three green, white, and black horizontal stripes and a coat of arms to the left of the center. Green represents hope. White symbolizes the purity of the natural environment. Black expresses the grief of the immigrants who have to leave their beloved land. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on February 26, 1983. Extremadura is an autonomous community in Spain. Its capital is Mérida; its population is about 1.065 million (2019); and its area is 41,634 km².
