The flag of Macau consists of a light green area with a lotus flower in the center. At the top of the flower, there are five golden stars, and under the flower, there is the stylized Governador Nobre de Carvalho Bridge and its waters. The bridge and water beneath the lotus flower symbolize Macau's position as a port and the role it plays in the region. The five stars symbolize Macau's relationship with the sovereign Chinese state. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on March 31st, 1993.
