Flag of Nova Scotia (GIF)



The flag of Nova Scotia (French: Drapeau de la Nouvelle-Écosse) consists of a blue cross covering the flag on a white background and a centered shield carrying the royal arms of Scotland. Scotland's royal arms is a golden shield with a red lion adorned with lily motifs stylized on double borders. The height-to-width ratio of the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted in 1858. Nova Scotia is one of Canada's three Maritime provinces. Its capital and largest city is Halifax; its population is approximately 971,395 (2019); and its area is 55,284 km².
