Flag of New South Wales (GIF)
The flag of New South Wales is based on the defaced British Blue Ensign and has a state badge on the right. The badge is a white disc with a Saint George cross on it, with a golden lion in the middle of the cross and an eight-pointed golden star on each arm of the cross. The height-to-width ratio of the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted in 1876. New South Wales is a state on the east coast of Australia. Its capital is Sydney; its population is approximately 8.166 million (2020); and its area is 800,628 km².
