Flag of the Cocos Islands (GIF)



The Cocos (Keeling) Islands is an Australian external territory in the Indian Ocean. Its capital is West Island, its population is approximately 550, and its area is 14 km². The Cocos Islands flag is a green flag with a palm tree on a golden disc in the canton, a golden crescent in the center of the flag, and a golden south cross on the right. The palm tree represents the tropical vegetation of the islands, while the crescent symbolizes Islam. The colors of the flag are Australia's national colors, and the Southern Cross is a symbol of Australia and the Southern Hemisphere. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on April 6, 2004.
