Flag of Ontario (GIF)

The flag of Ontario (French: Drapeau de l'Ontario) is a defaced Red Ensign with the Royal Union Flag in the canton and the Ontario shield of arms on the right. The shield of arms contains symbols that reflect Ontario's British heritage, along with local symbols. In the upper part of the shield, St. George's red cross represents England, while at the bottom, there are three golden maple leaves on a green background. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on May 21, 1965.

Ontario is one of the 13 provinces and territories of Canada. Its capital and largest city is Toronto; its population is approximately 14.57 million (2019); and its area is 1,076,395 km².
