The flag of Chechnya (Russian: Флаг чечни) consists of a vertical white stripe with a national ornament in yellow and three horizontal bands of green, white, and red. Green represents Islam, white symbolizes peace, and red symbolizes bloodshed for freedom. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted on June 22, 2004. Chechnya, or the Chechen Republic, is a federal region of Russia. Its capital is Grozny; its population is about 1.511 million (2021); and its area is 15,300 km².
