Flag of Crimea (GIF)
The Crimean flag (Russian: Флаг Крыма) consists of three horizontal bands: blue, white, and red, in a 1:5:1 ratio. Blue represents purity and honesty. White symbolizes freedom. Red is an expression of the unity and courage of the Crimean people. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 1:2, and the flag was adopted on September 24, 1992. Crimea is a federal region (republic) of Russia that has been on the Crimean Peninsula since 2014. Its capital is Simferopol; its population is about 2.417 million (2021); and its area is 26,964 km².
