The Appenzell Outer-Rhodes (German: Flagge von Appenzell Ausserrhoden; French: Drapeau d'Appenzell Rhodes-Extérieures) flag is a white square flag with a black bear walking on its hind legs, like the Appenzell Inner-Rhodes flag. The bear represents power, courage, strength, and masculinity. Also, the letters "V & R" in the flag mean Vssere Rhoden. Appenzell Outer-Rhodes is a canton of Switzerland. Its capital is Herisau; its population is about 55,234 (2019); and its area is 243 km².
