Valais Flag GIF (Drapeau valaisan - Walliser Flagge)
The flag of Valais (German: Flagge von Wallis; French: Drapeau du Valais) is a two-color square flag consisting of two vertical white and red stripes divided by a black line. There are four stars in the white stripe, four stars in the red stripe, and five stars centered in the black line. The red and white were the colors of the Bishop of Sion, which had dominated Valais until very recently. All thirteen stars on the flag also represent the thirteen regions of Valais. Valais is one of the 26 cantons of Switzerland and is located in the southwestern part of the country. Its capital is Sion; its population is approximately 343,955 (2019); and its area is 5,224 km².
