Puerto Rico, officially known as the Puerto Rico Community, is an autonomous island community of the West Indies, associated with the United States. Its population is about 3,474,000 and its area is 3,515 mi².

The flag of Puerto Rico consists of five equal bands that change in red and white, and a blue isosceles triangle that is based on the left carries a large white star in the center. The red stripes represent the blood of brave warriors. The white stripes symbolize victory and peace. The white star represents the island of Puerto Rico. While the blue color symbolizes the sky and the blue coastal waters, the triangle represents the three branches of the government. The height-to-width ratio of the flag is 2:3, and the flag was adopted in 1952.
