Fribourg Flag GIF (Drapeau de Fribourg - Flagge von Freiburg)

The Fribourg flag (German: Flagge von Freiburg; French: Drapeau de Fribourg) is a very simple square flag consisting of two horizontal equal stripes in black and white. The colors of the flag are thought to be based on Berchtold IV, Duke of Zahringia, the founder of the city. The flag was adopted in 1410 but probably dates back to the 13th century. Fribourg is a canton in the west of Switzerland. Its capital is Fribourg; its population is approximately 318,714 (2019); and its area is 1,671 km².
