Flag of Lucerne (GIF)
The Lucerne flag (German: Flagge von Luzern; French: Drapeau de Lucerne) is a simple square flag in two colors, consisting of two equal horizontal stripes of white and sky blue. In modern popular culture, the blue color represents lakes, and the white color symbolizes the snow-capped mountains over lakes. Also, the second explanation is that these colors are the colors of the Virgin Mary. The blue-and-white flag has been used since 1386. Lucerne is a Swiss canton located in the center of Switzerland. Its capital is Lucerne; its population is about 409,557 (2019); and its area is 1,494 km².
