Flag of Saxony-Anhalt (GIF)



The Saxony-Anhalt flag (German: Flagge Sachsen-Anhalts) consists of two horizontal yellow and black stripes with a state coat of arms in the middle. The height-to-width ratio in the flag is 3:5, and the flag was adopted on January 30, 1991. The shield-shaped coat of arms is composed of two parts. The upper part of the coat of arms representing the Prussian province shows a black eagle and green rue ornament in a rectangle of black and yellow stripes. In the lower half, there is an Anhalt black bear on the wall of a red castle with a gate. Saxony-Anhalt is a federal state of Germany. Its capital is Magdeburg; its population is about 2.208 million (2019); and its area is 20,446 km².
